Team New Concept: Saluting our superb staff
We’re starting out the new year with a series of blogs highlighting our special New Concept Auto Service team members. We are a small but energetic and mighty group, each with a highly-polished skill set.
Our first profile features Service Advisor Phil Perez, who cheerfully and professionally handles the phones, walk-in customers and most of the communication that goes on here.
What is your background in the automotive industry? Actually, I’ve been in the car repair industry since I was 15 years old when I worked at a full-service filling station. My dad has always been into cars and got me involved so I’ve really always had my hand in car repair. I’ve worked in all aspects of the industry—body shop, paint, mechanical, detailing. When I moved to Kansas City I worked at Shore Tire and the old Montgomery Ward’s Auto Center at Oak Park Mall. Through the years I’ve gained a lot of product knowledge.
What is your role at New Concept? I am the service advisor. Paul says I’m the service manager, secretary, liaison, etc. I do just about everything. I like to think of it as a service consultant. I am officially an ASE-certified Automobile Service Consultant.
What is the best thing about working at New Concept? I would say the people, the customers. Paul has done a good job of educating our customers about the importance of proper car care and he has created a relaxed, friendly atmosphere here. New Concept customers just trust Paul, and they should. He is a small town guy like I am—a handshake is his word.
How do you like to spend your weekends? Riding my Harley-Davidson when it’s warm enough—and spending time with my family.
What is your dream car? When I was in high school I had a 1962 Impala SS that my dad and I fixed up and showed. It was my baby!
Favorite musical group? Right now it’s probably “Los Lonely Boys.”
